. . . it has been observed time out of mind, that the clergy
of all countries carry on their disputes with more
bitterness, wrath and fury than any other set of men
whatever; which gave the poet cause to say,
  When Kings fall out, they cease their hate,
  And peace is welcome, tho' it come but late:
  But angry gownmen wage immortal wars,
  And know no limits to their sacred jars,. . .
